Coding Workshop

Saturday, the 17th of October, the Chickadees (Team 5871) not only set up a blog, but also started to learn the basics of coding through the instruction of Marianna Budnikova. In our first project we used the program Eclipse to learn how to make the computer say Hello World along with other messages. As the workshop progressed Team 5871 worked to understand and code boolean, if statements, as well as many other subjects. The Chickadees ended the day using the program Robocode, where we set robots against each other in a battle. We were challenged to instruct our robots to go in a circle. When we figured this problem out, the team was then faced with another problem to solve. The workshop was successful in teaching us some of the basics of the Java language.  The seven of The Chickadees who attended, found the workshop informative and fun. For most of us, what we took part in today was our first opportunity and experience in coding. Because of this and the new, complicated language, some of us struggled with a few of the tasks.  With the help of our teammates and instructors, we figured it out. This workshop not only improved our coding skills, but also helped the team become more comfortable with the each other and the instructors.
